Product Description

This brisk tour of essential oils (or concentrated plant essences) and explores their many applications and uses. Author Susan Worwood begins with a brief history of oils and aromatherapy, which describes how the practice of aromatherapy shifted from having New Age connotations to being accepted in popular culture. The reader then learns how essential oils work--from their antibiotic, antiviral, and antifungal properties to their mind/body/spiritual connection. The guide provides tips on buying and storing oils and includes useful one-page profiles of the plants that produce the oils, from basil to yuzu. The book's exhaustive "how to use" list describes how to make face masks, foot baths, gargles, diffusers, and more. The list also teaches us that there are inexpensive, natural treatments for many common maladies. This book offers a great crash course in essential oils and aromatherapy is a useful reference handbook.

This book clearly outlines many essential oils, their sources and recommended uses. There is also an invaluable section listing common ailments and which essential oils are best used to treat them. This was the first aromatherapy book I ever purchased, and I still refer to it often.
If you get only one book on aromatherapy, get this one!

I have a number of aromatherapy books, but this one is my favorite. It's a small book but it contains all the practical knowledge you need to know to practice good aromatherapy. I have found it invaluable and highly recommend it.

I got this book out of the library and enjoyed it so much I purchased it. The reference charts are fabulous and the well-laid out easy to read style makes it a pleasure. If you are looking for a highly detailed aromatherapy book then skip this one but if you are looking for recipes, lists of what each herb is good for, etc. then this is the book for you.
Great Reference

This is a very handy, convenient reference book. It contains a lot of information and is very portable, which most of my other reference books are not. Easy and clear to read for both beginners and advanced students of aromatherapy.
Great Beginnings

I'm just beginning to learn about the many uses of aromatherapy. This book has been so helpful without being overwhelming. Great quick reference guide.
